Trung Cuu Festival

Big House, Long Son Commune, City. Vung Tau.

Trung Cuu Festival is held on the 7th, 8th and 9th of the 9th lunar month every year at Nha Lon, Long Son commune, City. Vung Tau. This is known as the festival of a folk belief that always aims for goodness, prays for peace, and prays for the people's health and happiness... Origin of Trung Cuu festival: The story goes that, long ago, Long Son commune had Mr. Le Van Muu, who participated in the uprising against the French colonialists. However, the uprising failed, Mr. Le Van Muu took his family to hide in the east of Nua mountain, establishing Ba Trao hamlet (now Long Son commune). Here, he built the Big House, a place to worship Buddha, worship Fairies, and worship Saints. In particular, he created houses for temporary residents to live in, so Long Son soon became a place where many people came to settle down and became increasingly bustling and crowded. When he was alive, Mr. Le Van Muu often wore his hair in a bun, walked barefoot and worked all day, so people often called him Mr. Tran. When he passed away, to commemorate his merit of founding the village and holding a ceremony to pray for peace, the people of this area formed a folk belief called Mr. Tran's religion or Mr. Nha Lon's religion. Because it is held on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month, the festival is called Trung Cuu. Unique rituals of Trung Cuu festival: Mr. Tran's religion is a belief aimed at goodness. Therefore, religious people always direct themselves towards goodness and remember the merits of their ancestors when they opened land and established villages. Starting many days before the festival, people went to the Big House relic to sweep and clean all 6 surrounding streets to make a resting place for visitors. Guests coming from far away to the Trung Cuu festival will be provided with free accommodation. Rows of ancient houses are decorated with long, square red tureens. According to local people, the custom of writing tureens originated hundreds of years ago, since Mr. Tran came to the Lon Dynasty and expanded the land of Long Son. There is no singing or dancing or colorful processions. Trung Cuu festival only has streams of people respectfully offering incense and praying. However, because of that simplicity, the Trung Cuu festival attracts thousands of devotees and tourists every year. The entire festival is just two days of offering salty offerings and fasting. On the 8th day of the 9th lunar month, local people and Ong Tran followers from all over will conduct the Tien Thuong worshiping ceremony. This is a ceremony to worship salty foods - products brought by people from many places to worship. Coming to Trung Cuu festival, you will easily recognize who are the visitors and who are followers of Mr. Tran's religion during the festival. Because Mr. Tran's followers all wear black Ba Ba clothes, have onion hair, and walk barefoot, imitating Mr. Tran's simple style when he was alive. On September 9, observe a fasting ceremony on the death anniversary, that is, only offer vegetarian food. Tourists and religious people from Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Tien Giang, Ben Tre... came to offer incense, pray for peace and sincerely remember Mr. Tran's merits.
