Xiêm Cán Pagoda is located in Vĩnh Trạch Đông commune, about 7km from Bạc Liêu City (Bạc Liêu province). It's considered the most ancient and splendid pagoda within the Khmer pagoda system in the Southwestern region. The pagoda was built in 1887 and spans an area of about 5 hectares.
Initially, Xiêm Cán Pagoda had the Khmer name Komphisako, signifying the profound and vast wisdom of Buddhist teachings. The name Xiêm Cán for the pagoda originates from the Teochew dialect (spoken by people of Teochew Chinese descent, many of whom now live in Bạc Liêu) and means "bordering water," due to the area's former geography next to coastal mudflats.

The Memorial Area for Southern Vietnamese Folk Music (Đờn ca tài tử) and Musician Cao Văn Lầu (simply referred to as the memorial area) is located at Hamlet 4, Ward 2, Bạc Liêu City, Bạc Liêu province. Here, visitors can fully immerse themselves in the world of Đờn ca tài tử, experiencing the captivating melodies of the immortal song Dạ cổ hoài lang.
At the same time, admire the distinctive architectural works that beautifully reflect the art of Đờn ca tài tử. Additionally, visitors can hear the captivating story of the late talented musician Cao Văn Lầu's challenging love life.

The Memorial Area for Southern Vietnamese Folk Music (Đờn ca tài tử) and Musician Cao Văn Lầu was constructed in 2008. By 2013, the Bạc Liêu Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee entrusted the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism with its renovation and restoration, expanding the complex to over 12,500 square meters.

Miss Earth 2018 Nguyễn Phương Khánh, ambassador for the 'Lighting Up the Sea with Fishermen' program, visited the memorial area during her recent trip to Bạc Liêu.
In 2014, the memorial area was classified as a national heritage site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and in 2015, it was recognized as a typical tourist attraction of the region by the Mekong Delta Tourism Association. More recently, the memorial area further received four-star OCOP product certification, making it the first tourism product in the Mekong Delta to be recognized as an OCOP product.

At the time, it was the most imposing architectural work in the six provinces of the Western region, often referred to by locals as the "Big House."
